Today’s Dash – FromTheMountainsToTheSeas

Quilting is one hobby of mine. I love to create old ragged flannel quilts. My favorite material for quilts is flannel. I have made a few and they turn out beautiful(IMHO). Those I’ve made have been for family or friends. I’m going to start making some to sell now that I’ve joined the group of _____. Hmm, to which group do I belong– Stay at home mom – nope, no kiddos here anymore; Retired & Free – well, I’m thinking I’ll end up working somewhere again; Red Hat Lady – I think you have to be sixty to be a member, not quite there yet!; Crazy Cat Woman – Nope, no more pets for me. I guess you could call it- the Happy To Be Here At This Moment Group. That explains it perfectly!

So back to quilting…..I’m currently working on a stained glass cathedral window blue jean rag quilt. I’ve made one before for a friend with some of her son’s old blue jeans she wanted to do something with and then I picked out some of my material for the stained glass which reminded me of her. I’ll share a picture of it with this post. I’m having fun putting the squares together. They begin as circles and end up a four by four square. The best part of making a quilt is rummaging through my stash (and it’s pretty big) of material and letting the colors/designs/shades speak to to me as I choose which ones to use. When you have a love for most all colors and designs it really makes it difficult to narrow the choices, believe you me. So here are the pictures of the beginning of the current quilt I’m working on and just note that all the colors for the stained glass are only pinned in at the moment and will be changed as I get more squares made. The picture of the quilt hanging from the sundeck is the one I made for my friend. Enjoy.

Laying my blocks out as I finish each one. I can move the “stained glass – color squares” around to my liking when there are enough to make the size quilt I want.
Finished. It’s a very heavy quilt. There is no batting because the blue jean/flannel makes it warm enough.

This is what the back look likes. I stitched the tops in an S shape so it would make this design on the back. I liked it.
Completed.

Heading down to go sew a few more blocks. Y’all have a great day and remember to count your blessings. Thankful. Very thankful.
